About

At the end of 2017 I made a New Year's resolution - to begin the journey toward becoming a Web Developer. I then proceeded to *gasp* stick with it! Here we are now. This site is a testament to all that I have learned thus far.

Beyond Web Development, I graduated in 2016 with an honours degree in Criminology. My focus was surveillance, security and technology.

So what exactly have I learned? What else do I know? Navigate to Porfolio & Interests to learn more!

mainstream social media alternatives

These are some alternatives to the mainstream social media platforms. diaspora*, for example, is a platform that is decentralised. What this means is that there is no central server, and it is hosted essentially by what are called "pods". Pods are independently run servers (no main data storage facility)

There are many others out there. If you register , you will find guides to these alternatives (under construction). We will never share your information with third parties without your consent.

Other Alternatives

The things I have learned

This site in and of itself is by far the biggest project I have undertaken in my short programming career. Although the site is based on the Freelance Bootrap template, it has been customised a lot by myself. All in all I have added in excess of 1,800 lines of code to the original 400. That is in the index file alone. The most notable customisations include:

What I do for fun

As with most things, balance is key. Everything is an opportunity to learn more / something new. When I'm not learning more about programming / web development I enjoy:

Privacy and Security

Many people might not realise how much they enjoy privacy and security until one or the other is taken away. Neither of these topics are simple (nor is anything if you want to dig down enough), but this section provides a few quick tips if you are concerned about the security of your data online and offline. The most essential, in my opinion.
